Running for a Reason

“Completing a half or full marathon is a tremendous accomplishment and participating in honor or memory of a loved one with cancer makes the experience especially meaningful.”

Pat Hogan, Friends of CanCare and Lifetime Director,
CanCare volunteer

Pat Hogan, captain of Team CanCare, has been a survivor of lung cancer since 1982. She recruits many runners and walkers for Team CanCare.

Friends and supporters of CanCare raise money for our cause by running or walking in the annual Houston marathon and related races held every year in January. Members of Team CanCare raise monetary pledges from friends and relatives for their efforts. In return, the participants find that Running for a Reason helps them make it to the finish line when their energy begins to ebb. The participants also enjoy the camaraderie of team members by receiving a t-shirt, a series of Team CanCare newsletters, an opportunity to have their own website and attending a victory party held after the marathon.

Team CanCare has been a leading Houston Marathon charity since 1996. Each year, Team CanCare collects pledges from more than 200 participants in the Houston Marathon, the half-marathon and the three-miler.
