The Legacy of People Helping People
By: Kris Kerlin, Director of Mission Impact
As we celebrate the birthday of CanCare and 34 years of service on April 12th, we also celebrate National Volunteer Appreciation Month and all the lives that have been touched by our volunteer CanCare family! Our family is special because of each of you that are part of it! From the original action of one woman, Anne Turnage, a stage 4 colon cancer survivor diagnosed in 1970, a legacy of people helping people has grown into a national outreach with 1:1 matches, onsite healthcare visitations and online support groups.
Our survivorship community is a place of hope and inspiration for all those facing cancer. We share the of hope and inspiration that comes from the will and generosity of spirit to share the cancer journey with one another because we know that we are stronger together. You are making a difference in the lives of people! We cannot thank you enough.
We will be celebrating CanCare’s birthday online with a special birthday party. Please come and bring a guest and introduce them to CanCare. We know there are many people that need CanCare that have not heard of us yet. Please spread the word and invite someone to the party, Friday, April 12, 12-1PM Central time. Click HERE to rsvp!
We are growing to reach even more people who need us and we’re looking for people to join our CanCare family. If you, or someone you know is a caregiver (loves someone who has cancer) or is a cancer survivor who is 6-12 months post-treatment, we would love for them to become a CanCare volunteer. Our next training is scheduled for April 25-26. Click HERE to complete the volunteer application and to find out more.
