Volunteer Spotlight

We are thrilled to share the story of our beloved volunteer,  Vincent Skotko. Vincent, originally from Cleveland, Ohio, relocated to Tampa,  Florida, where he spent most of his life.

After serving almost four decades as a  clinical psychologist, Vincent bid farewell to his career in 2018, and  he and his wife decided to move closer to their son and family in Charleston,  South Carolina.

Despite leaving professional life, he prioritized maintaining  a healthy body and mind through daily exercise.

Alongside this, his enduring love for literature, especially  mystery novels, continued to bring him delight in this new phase of life. But  amidst all of this, his greatest joy came from being an active participant in  the lives of their three grandchildren.

In a doctor's office, Vincent's attention was captivated by a pamphlet introducing him to CanCare, a remarkable  organization supporting individuals fighting cancer. Delving into its  contents, he discovered the profound impact it had on cancer patients, resonating deeply with the professionalism and unwavering dedication of Cancare's staff and volunteers.

The memories of his spouse's cancer battle  flooded Vincent’s mind, reminding him of the strength they found in each  other during those challenging times. Caring for his spouse revealed to him a  reservoir of resilience, both physically and emotionally, that he never  thought possible—a profound revelation and gift born out of adversity.
