Angelina from Huntsville, Texas, became involved with CanCare in 2024 as both a client and a volunteer. Her personal connection with cancer led her to want to help others and be able to make them feel heard and understood. Even while navigating her own treatment journey, including chemotherapy and clinical trials, Angelina completed CanCare's volunteer training.

Angelina's motivation to become a CanCare volunteer stems from her desire to help people and be present for them during their most challenging times. She believes deeply in the power of being heard and understood, especially by someone who has walked a similar path.

Though after completing her training she had to return to the hospital for her own chemotherapy and clinical trial participation, Angelina has already learned valuable lessons about the importance of listening and showing up for others. She plans to volunteer as much as she can after completing her treatment, bringing her fresh perspective and recent experience to help others facing cancer.

When asked about how CanCare impacted her life... I wanted to help people and be able to be there and be able to make them feel heard and understood. I've learned the value listening can be and that sometimes it's okay to want to be heard as well and to show up for things because time is precious. Even though I haven't been able to volunteer yet due to my own treatment, the amount I've learned I'll forever take through life.

My words to pass along to anyone facing cancer... I think it's an amazing opportunity to be able to support someone who's been in the same position as you, as well as seeking support. It's a great opportunity for someone to feel more understood and supported. Show up for things because time is precious and don't let your circumstances keep you from dreaming big.
