Dionne from Houston, Texas, is a pancreatic cancer survivor who became a CanCare volunteer in 2023. As someone who has been blessed to overcome pancreatic cancer—one of the most challenging cancers to beat—Dionne brings a unique perspective of hope and resilience to her volunteer work.

Dionne discovered CanCare during her own treatment journey when she met someone during a couple of her treatments who told her about the organization. This connection opened her eyes to the support available and the opportunity to eventually give back to others facing similar battles.

Having faced one of the most aggressive forms of cancer and emerged victorious, Dionne understands the importance of maintaining a positive mindset and not getting overwhelmed by the often frightening information available online. Her experience has taught her the value of focusing on hope rather than statistics, and on personal strength rather than fear.

When asked about how CanCare impacted her life... Meeting someone during a couple of my treatments made me aware of CanCare and the incredible support they provide. Being blessed to overcome pancreatic cancer, I knew I wanted to give back and help others who are facing this same frightening journey. CanCare has given me the platform to turn my survival into purpose.

My words to pass along to anyone facing cancer... I would say do it—reach out to CanCare for support! Stay positive, don't get discouraged, and most importantly, don'tget sucked into the internet. Focus on your treatment, trust your medical team, and lean on people who have walked this path before you. There is hope, even with the toughest diagnoses.
