Gloria G.
Gloria has faced cancer from multiple perspectives. First as a caregiver when her husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2009, and then twice as a patient herself. Her first diagnosis came in October 2011 with Triple Negative breast cancer, followed by a second diagnosis in October 2017 with Triple Negative and HER2+ breast cancer.
The first time Gloria heard the words "You have cancer" was actually when her husband received his prostate cancer diagnosis. Life had thrown them a curveball, and they didn't know where to turn in this time of uncertainty. This experience prepared her in some ways for her own journey, though nothing can fully prepare someone for hearing those words directed at them.
Throughout her multiple cancer experiences, Gloria found her greatest support through her faith community at Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Navigating the emotional aspects of cancer proved to be one of the most challenging parts of her journey, but her strong faith foundation helped her find hope and strength even in the darkest moments.
Gloria's perspective on life has been transformed through her cancer journey. She now sees herself as called to serve the cancer community, spreading the hope and faith she received during her times of uncertainty. Her experience as both a caregiver and a two-time survivor gives her a unique understanding of the cancer journey from multiple angles.
When asked about how CanCare impacted her life... Cancer survivors, cancer patients and caregivers share a special bond, we are called to love one another with empathy and a listening ear. I am committed to reach out to the Cancer community to spread the Hope and Faith that I received in the midst of uncertainty.
My words to pass along to anyone facing cancer... Thank you, Lord, for choosing me to preach your goodness and to share my testimony, which I pray will touch the many lives of cancer patients and caregivers. There is hope and faith available even in the midst of the greatest uncertainty: reach out and you will find the support you need.
