Joseph is a Stage 4 colon cancer survivor diagnosed in 2007 who has become a dedicated CanCare volunteer constantly taking on new clients with a clear passion for the mission.

Joseph first heard about CanCare from a speaker at church about a year after dealing with cancer, post-surgery and chemotherapy. Her testimony weighed on him for a while before he finally became a volunteer.

Cancer gave Joseph a profound perspective shift about the simpler things in life. Growing up wanting the biggest, fastest, shiniest things, he learned that while those things are fine, they're not what life is truly about after dealing with cancer. A hug from his kids and smiles on friends' faces, being able to stop and smell the roses—these simple pleasures finally came into focus.

When asked about how CanCare impacted his life... Hearing her testimony at church weighed on me for a while before I finally became a volunteer. Being a CanCare volunteer warms my heart, giving people hope in their darkest hours by being able to talk with someone with a degree in the school of hard knocks of cancer. I listen to my clients and give them answers to their questions about unknown treatments and side effects.

My words to pass along to anyone facing cancer... You don't need to do this alone. There is someone out there that has been in your shoes and does understand what you are dealing with. Cancer gave me perspective on the simpler things in life—a hug from my kids and smiles on friends' faces are what really matter. That's what this world is truly about.
